If you’re like most of us, perhaps you’ve heard of the term Feng Shui and you remember loving the concept, but you weren’t sure how to incorporate it into your daily life and maybe you’re not aware of the awesome positive ramifications practicing this ancient Chinese science has. Check out my article on what Feng Shui is and how you can begin to practice it with a few easy tips. Read the full blog below!

WHAT IS FENG SHUI?

Feng Shui is a science that originated from China hundreds of years ago, that’s right people a “science” not a belief, that accounts for the energetic forces around us and acknowledges the need to balance those forces in harmony. Ok, so what exactly does that mean? Have you ever heard the term “Yin and Yang” or walked into a room and it didn’t quite feel right? That’s because the energy was off. Think of Feng Shui for energy just as you think of Gas for heat, or wind for weather. Feng Shui accounts for the energy that exists that we can’t necessarily see with our eyes. Like wind or gas, we know it’s there, sometimes we can feel it or smell it, but not necessarily touch it. Have you ever thought, “This doesn’t smell right” when referring to a situation? That’s because you were sensing the need for harmony and well, the bad Feng Shui.

There are a number of different approaches to Feng Shui including Classical and Contemporary. Learn more about the differences in Feng Shui style here: https://www.fengshuisociety.org.uk/types-of-feng-shui/

HOW DOES IT AFFECT US?

Feng Shui affects every aspect of our everyday life and encompasses too much for a short real estate blog, so I’ve captured a few of the most important aspects of how it affects mood, mindset, and opportunities using colors!

In Feng Shui different colors have different meanings. The meanings are tied to the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Here are the colors that reflect each:

  • Wood: Green, Brown
  • Fire: Red, Strong Yellow, Orange, Purple, Pink
  • Earth: Light Yellow, Sandy/Earthy, Light Brown
  • Metal: White, Gray
  • Water: Blue, Black

FENG SHUI HOME COLOR TIPS:

  • Green is excellent for improving health and balancing family life when used in the East feng shui bagua area of your home.
  • Blue is a very good feng shui choice in the North bagua area to support the energy of your career growth or in the East (health/family) and Southeast (wealth/money) areas to water and nourish the Wood feng shui element.
  • Strong Yellow is great in the South feng shui bagua area for happy gatherings and good times.
  • Pure white in the West feng shui bagua area (creativity and children) will bring supportive energy for all your creative endeavors.

GENERAL FENG SHUI TIPS FOR THE HOME

  • Clear the clutter.
This is probably the single most important aspect of practicing Feng Shui in your home! Consider ways you can better organize, designate certain areas for projects, and don’t be afraid to have a garage sale once a year!
  • Slow Down Escaping Chi.
Close your toilet lids to prevent the flow of abundance out of the home. Prevent a line of sight that extends from the front door to the back door. Fix any leaking faucets that have dripping water. Stagnant water reflects a stagnant life
  • Change all your light bulbs BEFORE they go out by rotating them annually.
Lights that don’t work reflect your energy as “burnt out” literally.
  • Allow Good Energy to Enter.
If you have a fence surrounding your home, consider propping the fence open with a rock to allow the energy and opportunity to flow freely.
  • Keep the Front Area Clear- Clear any spider webs from the corners above your door and remove any rugs that continually get caught on the door (You know that annoying s$$ rug that gets stuck?). Having stuff blocking your passageways also blocks wealth from reaching you.
  • Balance the elements of wood, metal, water, fire, and earth.
